Dental Bonding Treatment: A Good Option for Sensitive Teeth

At our dental office in Brevard, we recommend a dental bonding treatment for our patients with sensitive teeth. While most people never think that they will damage a tooth, it is entirely possible to do so and in the most unexpected ways. You can crack a tooth while biting into a holiday candy or chip a tooth on the soccer field. Whatever the reason, it is important to have the tooth restored right away so that you can prevent any unnecessary discomfort, irritation or infection. While we have several options for doing so, dental bonding is likely the best solution if you struggle with tooth sensitivity.

Your dental restoration Options

We can restore a cracked or chipped tooth using dental veneers, dental crowns or dental bonding. A dental crown is the most long-lasting solution that also offers the greatest level of protection. A dental crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth. In this way, nothing can touch the tooth directly. While dental veneers are also durable restorations, they are a thin shell that we bond to the surface of the tooth and are not as strong as dental crowns.

Regardless, both procedures are highly effective, natural looking and common. However, both procedures require us to remove a portion of the enamel before we can place the new part of the tooth. We remove the largest amount of enamel with a dental crown because a crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth, therefore, requiring more room. If the patient's teeth are already sensitive, then this step in the process can be uncomfortable.

Benefits of dental bonding

A dental bonding treatment is a better solution for sensitive teeth since we do not need to remove any of the enamel. We merely need to roughen and moisturize the tooth before starting the restoration. Next, we will apply a tooth-colored bonding material to the tooth and shape it into place. Thus, we can restore a cracked or damaged tooth. It takes the skill of an expert cosmetic dentist to shape the bonding material perfectly.

We are experts and can also use this same solution to cover dark stains, close gaps between teeth, and change the shape/size of teeth. The bonding material is incredibly versatile, just like dental veneers. However, since we do not need to remove any of the enamel, it is ideal for people with sensitive teeth, children, and teens. Once the bonding material is in the right shape, we will use a special dental light to harden it. The hardening process is quick and we can fully restore the damaged tooth in under an hour using dental bonding. The immediacy of this solution makes it ideal for those that do not have time to wait for dental care.

If you are a parent running between school drop-offs and pick-ups, soccer practice, and grocery shopping, then you probably do not have time to come in for multiple appointments. Using this solution, you do not have to. In one appointment, we can restore your tooth and improve your appearance. The same is true for busy professionals or people traveling.
